In reading I have been learning to use my prior knowledge about finding information about N.Z's involvement in War. I can summarizing key information by explaining what the author is meaning. I use my notes that we researched to help me.
I have been learning to research using books in the library,School Journals and the internet to find the information about WW1. For example me and my group used our wondering questions to skim and scan on the internet. I discussed the information with my buddy's as I was reading through the text so I could understand it.
One of the wars I've read about is called The Vietnam War. Did you know 3,000 soldiers fought in Vietnam War. 37 N.Z men died in the Vietnam War between 1963-1975. N.Z only supported the USA a little bit compared to WW1 and WW2. The war was against South Vietnam and North Vietnam. We went to help America because they supported South Vietnam because they were fighting against North Vietnam's communist government.
Me and my group made notes and then we used our notes to summarize the main information in our own words so we can put the notes we made into paragraphs. I can make connections with the Stories about the war I've read with my buddy's so it can help me find the answers quickly.
My Next Step is to read between the lines and look for clues in the book to help me understand what the text is telling me and also to use more of what I already know about other wars to help me read between the lines.
