Memory's 21st Century Learning

21st Century Learning!!!  


I want to be the best learner I can be and that's why I think 21st Century style of learning is the BEST!

What do you think of the idea “ I learn best at a desk”  I strongly disagree with this. I believe that most of you would also disagree with this statement

Today I am here to talk to you about why old school learning is boring and why 21st century learning is the BEST.

The old school way of learning is when teachers prepared students for work not LIFE. They chose when, how and where students learnt.  It was a one size fits all way of learning. This means that everyone had to learn the same thing even if it was too easy or hard for them.

In old school the only reason why students went to school was to get a job and go to university, But that was all. You only had a limited amount of jobs to chose from. In the future when we finish school there will be lots of new jobs that haven’t even been invented yet. 21st Century learning is helping us to be able to do these jobs.

I know 21st century learning is better because You can use technology & wifi to help get access to your learning easier and faster. For example if you were researching you don’t have to search through books you can research on the internet and You can also share you work using any device.

I know in 21st century Learning you can work in lots of different spaces inside, outside & different classes. You can choose your own choices of what you want to learn & where you want to learn.

In 21st century learning, Students work together in teams and groups, Student share their ideas and solve problems together. In the olden days students had to learn on their own, so you didn't get to learn as much.

By now you surely have to agree with me, that 21st century learning is the best because it can get you somewhere in life. Old century learning won’t. New modern technology helps us access our learning any time and anywhere.

Explanation Writing

How I shone at my Netball Finals

I shone last week on Saturday at our netball finals. We play netball at the Mungavin Courts. School’s from all over Porirua come and competed against other schools. I was in the Corinna Jewel team. Our coach was Lige.

At my netball finals I shone on the court when I was playing my heart out at our finals. I used my relating to other skills to encourage myself and my team to do the best to represent Corinna School.

I also shone when I used my thinking skills to think about who should I pass the ball to & look to see if anyone is free. I used these thinking skills because It helps me and my team to get the ball down the court and shoot some goals in.

Another time I shone at my Netball finals is when I helped my team to intercept the ball, I was flying through the air like a bird.

I felt proud when I shone at our netball finals because I think that I will want to do netball next year and also I felt proud because I was not shy to show my skills of netball.

Good Friday Learning Story

Good Friday Learning Story


Every Friday Ngati Awhina have Good Friday. During Good Friday I choose to be in the cooking group. In the cooking group, we decided to make our own restaurant. I have been learning to relate well to others so we can work together as a team to make decorations for our restaurant, find recipes, and help cook the food. 

My group is making a recipe book. In our recipe book we have a menu of what we are going to serve to people. One of the dishes we have is an Entree and for our Entree we have Chicken satay with mango Relish. Before we had to choose what dish we were going to serve we had to ask questions to find out what dish and food people like to eat. We also had to think about what vegetables we are growing in our garden. This gave us ideas about what recipes to choose.

In Good Friday cooking group I can Participate and Contribute with others by helping them E.G Sharing some of my own idea's and opinions,Asking questions to give them clues and Explain my idea's and use examples to help them..

In Good Friday I have been learning to work with other people from different classes. Philomena,Anita,Trinity and Sareta they choose to be in the cooking group but they are making colorful flowers made by hands. They taught me how to make the flowers.

My Next Step: 

Taking on different roles including stepping up and being a leader.

Teaching others the skills I have learnt in Good Friday, like how to search for recipes and what types of foods are entrees and mains.

Year 6 Activity Week Learning Story!!!

Year 6 Activity Week

In Year 6 activity week when the year 7's and 8's went to camp, the Year 6's from Rm9 and Rm3 stayed behind. While the year 7's and 8's were gone the Year 6's had so much fun because we were cooking, making stop motion videos, orienteering and camping in the hall.

The activity I liked the best was when we had to go camping but it was in the hall. In the hall we had to work as a team to put up the tents. We had to listen to everyone's ideas about how to do it and then cooperate to follow the instructions.

Next we made ice cream. We had to follow the instructions step by step. But some of the Year 6's didn't listen because our ice cream turned out to be a disaster!!! Our ice cream was salty and yucky!!!

At Y6 activity week I can use my relating to other skills E.G Helping other groups to put up there tents and Telling them the instructions step by step.

Netball Learning Story


Netball Learning Story


Every Tuesday and Wednesday after school, Corinna Jewel have netball Training. At netball training I can use my thinking skills to think about who I am going to pass the ball to and where I need to be on the court. I have to use strategic thinking skills to help my team get the ball down the court. 

I can also relate to others by listening to my team mates ideas and my coach's ideas so I can learn to be a great netball player. I listen to my coach when she teaches me how to move in the circle and shoot the ball and then I can do this on Saturday. I can concentrate on where I am shooting the ball so I can get scores for my team.

When I am on the court I can support my team mates  and encourage them so they can intercept and defend there partner. I give them ideas about how to pass the ball, like I say, "bounce the ball" when their partner is too tall.

When I first played Netball I didn't know what position I was and I also didn't know how to play. But when I went to training every Tuesday and Wednesday I tried my best to follow my team mates even if I didn't know how to play Netball. I never gave up and I took a risk. Now I play GA and I know how to play netball and my position. I like playing netball because we get to verse other schools.

My Next Step:

To learn how to play different positions like GS and GK. My favorite position to play is GA because I like to be in the circle and aim for the hoop with my partner GS.


Writing Learning Story


In Writing I have been learning to:

In Writing I have been learning to use descriptive language to describe my characters and what is happening in my story  to make my writing interesting and entertaining. I can paint a picture in my readers mind for example: I can use adjectives,adverbs,similes,metaphors,descriptive phrases and specific verbs.

An example from my writing is:
bright shiny morning, I ripped the letter open, soft hands

I have also been learning to use my knowledge of what I have learnt from my reading to help me describe and explain in my own descriptive writing. I sometimes include lots of details about to give my reader more information.


An example from my writing is:
"We have to remember the N.Z soldiers because they didn't only fight for their country but fought to save there family's" 

I group my ideas in paragraphs and I make sure they are put in order or my writing won't make sense and my reader won't understand my story.

An other activity I have been learning in writing is to write a Narrative and pretend that I am a mother and I have a son that is going to war to fight and that he got pulled out of the ballot here is an example “I have to go or else I will go to jail if i die I will always remember you and you will always remember me the day I died but if I survive I will be the luckiest person ever?

I can include an introduction for example On a bright shiny morning I heard a noise “Beep Beep” an other interesting example for an introduction is As I say “may God be with you”,  

My Next Step is to write facts about the 5ws and a conclusion to explain what my explanation is about.
